Live: Multi-block

Fragmented Live: Multi-block.

This is the method for inserting SCTE-35 advertising breaks during a live event. "Stacking" several Live blocks repeatedly within a time interval of < 5min enables Live fragmentation.

Within the programming grid, the live event will not be considered as delimited and ended by a single block (IN Start / Stop OUT).

Instead, it will be split up according to the number of blocks on the grid.

Live will be paused at the end of one block, then resume playback at the start of the next.

According to this example:

1. The 1st red block / Live is the one that starts the live broadcast to the Playout.

Live is therefore broadcast for 5 minutes.

2. The Transition block marks the exit from the live stream, and the entry into the pub tunnel.

3. The 2 advertising blocks mark the advertising tunnel.

This can also be a block containing SCTE-35 markers (OUT / IN) for replacement on the broadcaster's side.

4. The Transition block marks the end of the ad tunnel.

5. The 2nd red block / Live is the one that resumes the live broadcast to the Playout.

After 5 minutes, the live stream will no longer be broadcast, allowing the live stream to be stopped.

⚠ It's important to plan block durations that correspond to the actual duration of the live stream to be broadcast.

⚠ The block duration can be modulated (increment / subtraction) according to the actual live duration.

Method

Preparatory work

1. Create the Live program

As for adding a file, but this time we'll check "Live" to create the "Live - fragmented block" program.

2. Create a Live folder

containing the program "Live - fragmented block".

3. Create a Broadcast / Automation

4. Define a start time and duration

Drag and drop the program into your playlist. The Okast Channels algorithm will then manage the broadcast of the Live stream.

⚠ This work needs to be prepared in advance, and may only need to be carried out once!

Work during live broadcast

4. Start sending live feed

Start sending the RTMP/SRT stream to the ingest point provided by the Okast Channels instance.

5. Start recording the live stream

This buffers the time interval between pressing the record button & the stop button.

6. The Live block is playing/playout.

The buffer content is read/unrolled by the playlist engine, and displayed in the playout.

7. Stop live recording

Press the square, stop button to stop recording the stream.

The live block will continue to play the contents of the buffer and then end.
