Step 1 - Import an ad carpet

To do this, go to the Videos / Add a video section

This will display the interface for adding media

Method for importing an ad mat:

Please follow the instructions given in the PDF specification at the end of this article.

• Select the addition method, in our example Local.

• Add the media from your hard drive by clicking on "choose a file".

• Assign it a Tag, "advertising", checking that the tag has a "No overlay" scenario.

• Assign it a title, "Ad Carpet #1".

• Uncheck the "Offer as Replay" box.

• Tick the "Advertising file" box.

• Add an image for the EPG.

• Select "Ad Break" for the "SCTE-35 Event" parameter.

• For the "Type SCTE-35" parameter, select "CUE out/in".

• Click on the 'Send file' button.

• Then go to the Videos / Imported videos validation section.

• Wait until the standardisation of your programme has been finalised.

• Confirm the import of your programme.

• Then go to the Videos / All videos section.

• Check that your newly added programme is at the top of the list.

Result

→ The presence of the double pictogram in the SCTE-35 column makes it possible to quickly validate the presence of out, in or both markers on the programme.

A programme with one or 2 markers will be interpreted by Playout as:

• The start of an advertising tunnel.
• The end of an advertising tunnel.
• A fully-fledged tunnel (out → in).

Step 2 - Integrating an ad tunnel into an automation

To do this, go to the Programming / Sending section and then to the "Automation" part of the interface for adding and modifying an automation. 

How to create an automation rule that broadcasts an ad tunnel:

• Choose "folder mode" from the 1st drop-down menu.

• Choose the target "ad carpet" via the 2nd drop-down menu.

• Choose the "Random mode" for playback via the 3rd drop-down menu.

• Choose the number of items to be played: 1.

• Choose the appropriate scenario: "No overlay".

• Click on the "Add" button.

Result

You have created an automation delivering a 2-minute ad tunnel. To improve the quality of experience of your channel, we recommend that you add a jingle before and after the ad tunnel.

Step 3 - Insert a manual ad tunnel

To do this, go to the Playlist / Today section. This will display the programming management interface for the current day

Method for inserting an ad tunnel

Filter the available programmes by "Ad Carpet" folder

• In the left-hand column, left-click on the programme and hold down the mouse button.

• Drag the mouse to the right-hand column.

• See the green separator symbolising the target location.

• Release to insert the ad mat between the 2 programmes you wish to separate.

• If you want to replace a program with the ad tunnel, hold down the "Shift" key. The green separator is replaced by 2 green lines encircling the target program to be replaced.

Result

You have added an ad tunnel to the one-day playlist.
