External content from STREAM sources: URL HLS + EPG

By selecting the STREAM parameters for the source of your External content, you can offer your users the stream of an external video in the same way as a television channel and its programme schedule.

This feature allows you to display a permanent, automated video stream in the location you want on your platform.

For example, on your Home page, so you can guarantee new content every time you log on, or in a Smartlist dedicated to TV content by retrieving several channel feeds.

The aim is twofold: firstly, to offer your users a diversity of uses. They can access streaming content such as TV channels and stock content such as documentaries or series.

Secondly, to inform them of future programmes at a glance, so that they are aware of the richness of your platform.

Go to the CONTENT MANAGEMENT > External content > Source STREAM menu.

In this case, you want to broadcast video streams from URLs in the OKAST video player. Copy and paste the URL of the corresponding stream either :

1. The 'Source URL' field is used to integrate a simple video stream, i.e. without any additional data enrichment. HLS format is required for this field. Check that the stream is working correctly by clicking on "Display video".

Your users will see the video linked to the 'Source URL' field as if it were 'Hosted content'.

2. The 'EPG URL' Additional Field allows your 'Source URL' video to be enhanced with a TV EPG (Electronic Program Guide).

The EPG URL provides detailed information accessible via an interactive infographic menu (next scheduled content, broadcast times, metadata, etc.).

You will find an example EPG URL attachment using the XMLTV format (https://metacpan.org/pod/DateTime::Format::XMLTV) at the end of this help page.

Your users will see the video stream linked to the 'Source URL' field + the data in the 'EPG URL' field as if it were 'Hosted Content' enriched with a programme schedule.

You can also include an EPG channel on the home page of your site. To do this, you need to create a 'Highlight' component in the menu: PLATFORM > Layout > Home > Create a component > Highlight > External and select the EPG display option.

This will give you a 'Highlight' of the EPG video as well as upcoming programmes.

If you wish to integrate an external 'on demand' video such as a video player from the following platforms: YouTube, Dailymotion, Facebook, Arte, Vimeo and France TV, please follow this link > External content from 'EXTERNAL' sources: video players.
